ALLIAGE 218 - Nitronic 60

US

UNS S21800

"Anti-galling" austenitic steel with high abrasion resistance thanks to added silicon and manganese. High corrosion resistance, similar to that of 1.4301 but with double the maximum elongation. Similar oxidation resistance to 1.4828.

Nitronic 60 - UNS S21800 - Available from stock

Nitronic 60 steel, also known by the names Alloy218 and UNS S21800, is an austenitic stainless steel. It is characterised byits silicon and manganese-enriched composition, giving it unique properties interms of resistance to abrasion, galling and corrosion.

Technical info:

  • Europe: ALLIAGE 218
  • USA: UNS S21800
  • USA: ASTM A276 | ASTM A479 | A193 | A194 | A240 | A276 | A314 | A351 | A7430
  • Abrasion resistance: exceptional corrosion and galling resistance thanks to added silicon and manganese.
  • Corrosion resistance: higher than that of 316 stainless steel, especially against chloride pitting corrosion. Its general corrosion resistance is comparable to that of 1.4301 (AISI 304) stainless steel, but with higher ductility.
  • Oxidation resistance: similar to 1.4828 steel, it withstands oxidising environments well.
  • Thanks to its austenitic structure, Nitronic 60 steel can be hardened through cold working, instead of traditional heat treatment methods.
  • Offers high yield strength and excellent ductility, easier to bend than other standard austenitic stainless steels.
  • This steel is a good choice for its effectivenessin extremely abrasive conditions,‍ its excellent galling resistance withoutlubrication, as well as its resistance to corrosion, particularly inaeronautical, maritime and chemical applications.

Conclusion
Application
  • Designed for environments that require high abrasion and galling resistance, as well as resistance to different types of corrosion, e.g. galvanic and chloride pitting corrosion.
  • Used in applications where anti-galling properties are essential, such as valve components, pumps, fasteners and applications exposed to marine or chloride corrosion.
